About This Build

This Poway backyard needed shade over the barbecue. We built a freestanding two-post arbor with a solid insulated roof, a custom design we worked out with the manufacturer's engineers.

The video starts with a 10 inch core drill cutting the footing locations on either side of the barbecue. The steel posts are countersunk into those footings and left to cure, then the structure is built on top. Most of the eight minutes is build footage set to music, so the spoken transcript below is short.

Video Transcript

Lightly edited for readability from the narration in “Custom Alumawood BBQ Arbor Installation | Poway, San Diego County” on the Southwest Builders YouTube channel.

What we're going to do here today is build an arbor: a freestanding two-post design, kind of a custom design. It's a solid-roofed arbor with an insulated roof system. We custom designed this with the manufacturer's engineers, and we're about to build it. It's going to be pretty exciting, so we hope you enjoy it.

What we're going to do here is take the core drill, with a 10 inch core drill bit, and core our footing locations on either side of the barbecue. Here are our posts. Then we're going to countersink these posts in the footings, let those cure, and then build our structure on top of them.

(The rest of the video is build footage set to music.)
