Kris’s two-story home in Poway had three outdoor entertaining areas and shade over none of them.The patio, the second seating area and the BBQ island all sat in full Southern California sun, which meant a backyard built for hosting that emptied out by mid-afternoon.
Kris reviewed several proposals and chose Southwest Builders for Tom’s detailed design vision and competitive pricing. We designed three structures to work together: a 14 by 16 foot Elitewood aluminum
pergola attached to the home, a 16 by 20 foot attached pergola over the larger gathering space, and a 5 by 12 foot freestanding patio cover over the BBQ island. All three are Four Seasons Elitewood Ultra aluminum in a Driftwood finish, installed in five days.
The backyard now works all day. The Driftwood finish gives the pergolas the warmth of wood without the maintenance, the big attached pergola has become the main room for relaxing and socializing, and whoever is at the grill has shade without losing the open feel. Kris left a five-star review on Google for the professionalism, attention to detail and on-time installation, and the pergolas carry a manufacturer’s warranty.
Without them, the yard would have stayed a morning-only space. If your backyard has more than one place to gather and no shade over any of them, picture a set of structures designed as one. We would love to build them.
